He is also a poet, composer and singer. Visotsky's underground songs-ballads are immensely popular now in Russia. They are widely distributed on tapes. Efforts by KGB agents to confiscate these tapes are made futile by Visotsky fans, who are determined to continue taping and distributing his songs. Visotsky's songs are unique in that they capture both the beauty and pain present in Russia today. He sings about Stalin's death camps, about love, friendship and honor.
